At the just-concluded Google I/O 2024 conference, Google announced that it would integrate the Gemini AI assistant in its Chrome browser. This will enable users to experience various AI functions based on the Gemini Nano model directly in the browser.
Gemini Nano is a lightweight large-scale language model that Google introduced to the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 phones last year. In order to bring it to the Chrome browser, Google optimized and adjusted the model and ensured that the browser could quickly load the AI model.
Thanks to this new feature, users will be able to generate product reviews, social media posts, and more directly in the Chrome browser. This is similar to Microsoft's approach of integrating Copilot AI assistant in the Edge browser, but the difference is that Copilot needs to connect to a cloud server, while Gemini Nano runs locally.
In addition, Google also revealed that Gemini AI will be integrated into Chrome DevTools development tools to provide developers with functions such as error message explanations and coding problem repair suggestions.
We look forward to personally experiencing this new feature in Chrome version 126 and experiencing the charm of Gemini AI Assistant.
